You may begin noticing the children are beginning to be very comfortable often times treating one another as a sibling rather than a classmate. It is then that you hear more about physical contact such as hitting or kicking. We at the school want you to know that type of behavior is NEVER ok. It tends to happen mostly during transition times or at recess. When we see it or are told about it we handle it immediately. If your child talks about a "restricted" recess that means the child went out with the kids like everyone else but had to sit and not participate. If the incident calls for more attention, the child will visit with Mr. Hemphill. If more attention needs to be called to the matter a referral is sent home. We want the punishment to be appropriate for the situation so thankfully most confrontations can be handled by reminding students to make good choices. Parents can help at home by asking students what would you do if...... or role-playing with your child.

We are still having issues with students wanting to touch or grab each other when they are in line. This seems to be a work in progress every year. We are working hard on keeping hands to self, and taking care of self.
